CORIS® OMS Framework
While there is broad consistency to corrections business processes around the world, the requirements for any single agency vary by jurisdiction, by policy and by budget. As a true COTS solution, CORIS® OMS has been designed both functionally and technically to meet the unique informational and operational priorities of our customers.
CORIS® in the Cloud
In agencies around the world, there is a rapidly growing interest in the benefits available from deployment of mission-critical applications in the cloud. Abilis has closely monitored this trend for forward-thinking corrections agencies and has enabled CORIS® OMS to run effectively on Microsoft Azure Government. Azure is a high performance, secure and cost-effective environment for large scale computing, and is the only cloud solution in the US which is fully compliant with FedRAMP and CJIS security standards.
The benefits of cloud computing are attractive. Agencies can offload the costs and responsibilities for managing and maintaining expensive on-premise environments, and avoid the need to purchase and maintain hardware, monitor performance, and dedicate staff to manage environments. With Microsoft Azure, Abilis is able to provide cost-effective SLA’s that deliver 99.95% uptime in a highly secure environment. Currently two Abilis customers are in the process of deploying CORIS® OMS on Azure, and several others are expected to migrate from their on-premise data centers in the near future.
As a true COTS product, CORIS® is designed to provide a common technology infrastructure to every agency, with modular, flexible business processes designed to fit on top. Agencies can configure and customize their business processes as needed, without requiring changes to the underlying infrastructure. This strategy delivers cost-effective benefits in near-term and long-term timeframes alike. In the near-term, DOC-specific requirements can be addressed quickly for relatively low cost. Over the long-term, Abilis technical teams are able to continually evolve the underlying infrastructure to embrace new technologies and maintain currency, providing consistent, planned upgrades to all customers, without deprecation to unique custom capabilities of individual customers.
As well, CORIS® customers can be trained and certified to configure and customize their systems to meet specific needs. This certification process provides greater cost predictability for Abilis customers, and ensures that unique customizations will not be deprecated when regular, planned maintenance and enhancement releases are made available.
Finally, with inputs from across the Abilis customer base and consistent market analysis, the CORIS® product suite evolves according to a carefully planned and maintained product roadmap.
This evergreen approach to technology stewardship ensures that the mission-critical CORIS® OMS will never become obsolete.
Robust Security for Mission-critical Applications
The information associated with complex corrections operations is of a highly sensitive and confidential nature. The safety of the offender and staff, as well as the security of the overall operation demands a sophisticated, proven approach to application and data security.
Abilis understands this requirement and has delivered effectively across diverse operational configurations in different legal jurisdictions. The CORIS® Product Family provides a flexible security model to meet specific agency requirements and preferences, including complex user authentication, role-based authentication, and data-level security. For each of the different applications within the product family, careful consideration is given during the design process to ensure that business process availability is consistent with the task, device and expected location where computing will take place. As is shown in the graphic below, application capabilities vary with the device and usage type, thus ensuring maximum information security for the agency.
Abilis is the only COTS-based OMS vendor that has undergone the process for ISO 9001(2008) quality certification. With the high-risk realities of a complex corrections environment, OMS performance and reliability is of critical importance to every user. We believe that a standards-based commitment to quality is a fundamental component of our ability to deliver the mission-critical information necessary to help our customers successfully manage their operations in a safe, secure and efficient manner.
